Back in October, we reported that Apple was one of four tech giants opposing a proposed law in Australia focused on law enforcement access to encrypted data. Now, Australia has successfully passed that encryption legislation, which means companies including Apple, Facebook, Twitter, and Google could be forced to “build new capabilities” to thwart encrypted messages. As reported by CNET, the new Australia encryption law is being spun as essential for national security and an important part of law enforcement efforts in fighting terrorism....

Over four and a half seasons,The CW’s Arrow has grown from a serialized version of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy to the launching pad for a whole host of other superheroes. Along the way, it’s carved out its own niche as part of DC’s television universe. As the stars and writers have become more comfortable, the show has reached some dazzling heights in terms of characterization and emotional storytelling. It’s also packed in a whole bunch of brutal fight scenes, while also fleshing out a heap of heroes and villains from the pages of DC Comics....

James Cameron’s Avatar is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and it’s a good time to look at the impact it had in cinema. Written, directed, and produced by James Cameron, Avatar is his most ambitious film to date, and one that had been in development for years (since 1994, to be exact). Although it was supposed to begin production in mid-1997, after Cameron completed Titanic, the project was put on hold as the necessary technology for his vision of the film wasn’t available yet....

Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) was one of the characters on Arrow, both Earth-1 and Earth 2 versions, to go through an emotional roller coaster of a journey throughout the 8 seasons of the series. Whether it was the original version that went from a lawyer to a vigilante or the doppelganger that was able to fight her darkness, the Black Canary had plenty of adventures throughout the run. While the Earth-2 version may not be entirely done in the Arrowverse, with Green Arrow and the Canaries, it’s an end of an era for the character in terms of Laurel’s time on Arrow....

The new trailer for Arrow season 6 has dropped, along with the news that Michael Emerson will be joining the cast as a mystery character. The trailer dropped at SDCC this weekend, teasing a little of what fans can expect from the upcoming season without revealing exactly who could have survived the dramatic cliffhanger that ended the season 5 finale. Fans are expecting to see some big changes this season, as the show finally gets rid of the ‘island flashbacks’ that have been an integral part of Arrow since season 1, and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) becomes more involved in his son’s life....

2019’s Arrowverse crossover will be an adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths, according to Arrow star Stephen Amell. The Canadian actor has played Oliver Queen (a.k.a Green Arrow) for seven seasons now. Originally the only member of The CW’s DC-based universe, the show has since spun off The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Despite starting life on CBS, Supergirl has since swapped networks, and has also officially joined the Arrowverse fold....

Let’s just address the undead elephant in the room: Ash vs Evil Dead probably deserved a victory lap of some sort before being shuffled off to become part of Starz’s streaming catalogue forevermore, with a high probability of being seen by many more eyeballs when it inevitably makes its way to Netflix. Consolation prize or not, a victory lap would have given the show four, five, or six episodes to play around in the Mad Max-like post-apocalyptic future set in motion by the arrival of the Dark Ones, and it would have given Bruce Campbell the opportunity to act without a gigantic Nintendo Power Glove on his right hand, especially since Campbell says he’s now officially retired from the role of Ash....

O2 is currently brazening out the new increase in competition out, saying it has “no plans” for price cuts, but we think these will be inevitable. Also in the UK, Carphone Warehouse, which has held retail rights to sell iPhone beside Apple and O2, is now locked in negotiations with all three confirmed carriers to maintain that relationship, though it seems competing mobile retailer, Phones4U, is also vying for the trade....

AT&T is still the “iPhone network,” according to numbers from its quarterly earnings report. AT&T sold 5.5 million smartphones in the quarter, but 4.3 million of the smartphones activated were iPhones. That means the iPhone represented a whopping 78 percent of total smartphone sales (although some “iPhone activations” could have been hand me downs). Additionally, AT&T’s postpaid customers are almost 60 percent smartphone customers, which means AT&T’s iPhone customers represent a huge percentage of its base—nearly 5o percent and growing....
