The planned mobile Avatar game is moving forward with FoxNext with a target roll out before James Cameron’s sequel hits theaters. The newly established immersive entertainment unit from Fox took over the game’s original maker, Aftershock – an entity spun off from Kabam last December reportedly for $800 million. During Aftershock’s stint with Kabam, they were credited with creating Marvel Contest of Champions and The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth for the interactive entertainment company....

The wireless giant reported non-GAAP fourth quarter earnings of 78 cents a share (69 cents a share GAAP) on revenue of $41 billion, beating Wall Street’s estimate of 76 cents a share on revenue of $40.4 billion. For the full year, AT&T’s non-GAAP earnings were $3.40 a share ($2.76 a share GAAP), on revenue of $168.9 billion. According to its press release, for 2021, AT&T said it led the industry in postpaid phone net adds, gaining more subscribers than in the prior 10 years combined; added more than a million fiber subscribers — the fourth year in a row in which it added at least 1 million subscribers; and exceeded the high end of its guidance for global HBO Max and HBO subscribers....

. Apple is clearly in inventory clearance mode with the iPhone 5 at this point. Just a few hours ago, we reported that Walmart would be carrying the iPhone 5 for $129 with a two year plan. That’s not a promotion, that’s the new in-store price. Earlier yesterday, Virgin Mobile a pre-paid subsidiary of Sprint announced it would be carrying the iPhone for $549 unsubsidized – which is $100 off of retail....

Subsidization really makes sense because the carrier is using the customer’s bandwidth to provide 3G access. Charging a monthly fee, in this case $20/month, for the customer to use their own bandwidth to support AT&T’s customers seems like just a bit of a dick move. Maybe AT&T should be paying people to use their microcells? Sure the box costs money to build and support, but AT&T could certainly use the access bandwidth and certainly the good PR....

The expected spinoff to the now-ended Arrow, Green Arrow and the Canaries hasn’t yet been ordered to series, according to showrunner Beth Schwartz. There have been a number of ideas floated as to what will come next in the Arrowverse, with the original program in the universe having come to a conclusion a few weeks ago. Green Arrow and the Canaries became the torchbearer, with many expecting The CW to jump at the opportunity to keep many of the characters from Arrow in the fold going forward....

As reports indicate Apple is planning to launch its first AR/VR headset as soon as later this year or in 2023, Microsoft is reportedly revamping its own roadmap to better compete. According to a new report from Insider, citing an internal roadmap, “Microsoft’s mixed reality business is undergoing a major technology shift.” Insider first reported last week that Microsoft had scrapped its plans to release a HoloLens 3 product, opting instead to put its resources towards other products, including a device built in partnership with Samsung....

The Arrow season 8 trailer is released by The CW teasing the series’ final season. Arrow premiered in 2012 as the first show to launch the popular Arrowverse. Now, the universe includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and new series Batwoman, which premieres Oct. 6. All five shows, plus characters from fellow DC series Black Lightning, will unite at the end of the year for the massive Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover....

The Arrowverse is constantly expanding and contains a lot of memorable characters. While some of them have gained the spotlight they deserve, others should get their own TV show to continue fleshing out their backstory and exploring their lives further. Across all the Arrowverse shows there’s plenty of characters that we could think of to give a spin-off show to. Recently there have been reports that some of these characters are in fact getting their own TV series....

AT&T and DirecTV’s $48.5 billion merger has been approved today following more than a year of regulatory review. The merger will see AT&T become the biggest pay-TV company, passing up cable company Comcast. AT&T says it will serve more than 26 million U.S. customers and 19 million users in Latin America. As part of the regulatory approval, the FCC has applied several conditions to the merger, all of which will be imposed for four years and enforced by internal and external compliance officers....

Fans of macOS automation features like Automator and AppleScript feared the worst this week as it transpired that head of the automation technologies division, Sal Soghoian, had left the company and the whole unit inside Apple had been closed down. This fuelled speculation that Apple was abandoning a core power feature of the pro Mac user’s wheelhouse. Automation encapsulates a lot of Mac features that allow users to make a script, in code using AppleScript or a GUI with Automator, to let the operating system handle repetitive tasks and time-consuming work....

As Apple fans eagerly await the launch of the HomePod this year, the smart speaker market as a whole is booming. According to new research from NPR and Edison Research, one in six Americans now own some sort of smart speaker – up 128 percent compared to January 2017… The holiday shopping season, as TechCrunch notes, seems to have played a major role in the growth of the smart speaker market....

PlayStation 4 Sony received a standing ovation at its E3 presentation when it announced full support for used games, no requirement for online play for single player games, and a starting price of $399. However, the PS4 doesn’t include the PlayStation Eye – Sony’s version of the Kinect. Asus promised the Android Pie updates for their phones quite a time back, but missed their deadlines. After that, Deepak Sharma, head of mobile business, Asus, took it to YouTube to apologize for missing the timeline for the updates from the users and revealed new dates for the roll-out. He announced that the Zenfone Pro M1, Pro M2, and the Max M2 will get the updates by April 15th. Beta versions of the update were out since a few days, but you had to fill a form, deal with bugs in the OS, and report them to Asus....
