The 2015 Canadian Videogame Awards were held Sunday evening at Mattamy Centre in the heart of downtown Toronto where we were in attendance to celebrate Canada’s contributions to the entertainment industry.

Winners were announced from a list of more than 100 finalists, representing work developed in Canada and internationally. A body of industry experts from across the country voted on the winners in each category. Members of the general public voted online to determine the winners in the Fans’ Choice: Best Canadian-Made Game and Fans’ Choice: Best International Game categories.

Ubisoft, with studios in Montreal and Toronto, took home the most awards and won the day with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and the international love went out to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which also one game of the year at last week’s The Game Awards show in LA.

Due to the timing window of last year’s show, 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity was also up for many awards but appropriately didn’t win any awards given its many issues. Ubisoft could have an even bigger presence at next year’s CVAs with Rainbow Six Siege, The Division, and Far Cry Primal coming up alongside another new Assassin’s Creed title. There could also be even more blockbuster triple-A releases included Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Gears of War 4, and Mass Effect: Andromeda eligible next year in Canada.

This year’s show was live-streamed on Twitch and more information on the event can be found at www.cvawards.ca.

The Canadian Videogame Awards are produced by Reboot Communications and Swaf Media, and officially endorsed by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, Interactive Ontario and DigiBC.
