Movies based on video games have not had the best of luck once audiences have been able to see them. At the end of this year, Assassin’s Creed will try to turn the genre around. Based on the video game by the same name, for the movie, Michael Fassbender will be starring as Callum Lynch in the present day. When he learns of the ability to connect with his past ancestors through the Animus, he will begin training to relive the life of Aguilar. The simulations will take both Lynch and audiences back to the 15th century, where no English will be spoken.

Throughout each game, the appeal was the free roaming capabilities of an unfamiliar time, as well as the parkour and fighting styles. While the game allows users to jump from city to city if they please, the movie could take the realistic approach. If they do, Aguilar’s choice of transportation will be a horse, and fans can now see him riding one in the heat of an action sequence.

Total Film has been able to release a brand new image from Assassin’s Creed from their latest issue, in which Fassbender graces the cover. The new picture shows him riding on his trusty steed but with a sense of desire to either reach his destination quickly or outrun people that are after him. Check out the photo below:

There is not much to pick out from the photo itself, outside of the fact that viewers could be getting an intense chase scene at some point in the movie. Regardless of how this scene in particular is used in the movie or if it even makes the final cut, it has given fans a chance to take another look at the making of the film.

This may not be one of the bigger action sequences from the movie, but with the filmmakers and stuntmen performing an actual leap of faith, it is clear that they want to make all of these scenes feel as real as possible. If the trailer was an indication, there should be a great deal of action scenes in the movie. After all, this is the aspect of the games that so many people have enjoyed that it would be foolish not to keep this at the heart of the movie. Great action sequences could go a long way in delivering a great video game movie; now fans will just have to wait a few more months to find out whether or not this is the case.

Assassin’s Creed will see theatrical release in the U.S. on December 21, 2016.
