Ubisoft has released a new live-action trailer to promote Assassin’s Creed: Origins, which shows off some of the ways the player character can assassinate their targets in ancient Egypt. As the tenth major installment in the popular franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Origins takes players further back than ever by placing the game’s story in ancient Egypt. Players take control of an Assassin named Bayek, accompanied by an eagle, as he explores a rich, open-world environment.
Origins will also mark the return of naval combat, which was one of the biggest selling points of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. While fighting against the corruption of the Order of the Ancients who are secretly controlling the pharaoh, Bayek will be able to traverse the land both on horseback and camelback.
Less than two weeks ahead of the release of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ubisoft has released a live-action trailer titled ‘I Am’, which recreates the game’s ancient Egyptian setting. Narrated by Bayek, the trailer begins with a beautiful landscape shot that includes a pyramid. As Bayek sends his eagle flying off, the camera proceeds to follow the eagle into the city.
While Bayek talks about “taking faces and forms you would never think of,” the trailer shows us what Bayek means. Though Bayek is only shown at the beginning and end of the trailer, the character’s presence is felt throughout. His targets are killed, but never by Bayek directly. One man is lying in his bed, unaware that a snake is about to strike. Another is stabbed by a child, while a prison guard is strangled to death from behind by a prisoner and a member of the noble class is drowned in his own bath by female servants.
The trailer ends with chaos erupting all over the city. Bayek, wearing the trademark white hood of the Assassins, is seen watching from afar. Bayek says, “I am not a man: I’m a creed.” One of the takeaways from the trailer is that Origins isn’t all about Bayek hunting down each of his targets individually. Through manipulation and other methods, Bayek can kill an enemy without landing a single blow. How that will translate into the actual gameplay will have to wait to be seen.
