It appears that various rumors regarding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed installment have been confirmed ahead of the game’s official reveal next week. The long-awaited next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been in development for quite some time, due to the decision by Ubisoft to move away from an annual release strategy. From the time that the second Assassin’s Creed game hit the market in 2009, the studio had been releasing at least one main installment per year, for six years.
Lackluster critical and commercial reception to the game series following the debacle of Assassin’s Creed: Unity convinced Ubisoft to take a step back and re-evaluate the franchise before pushing forward with the next iteration. Because of that decision, last year marked the first time that an Assassin’s Creed game hadn’t released since 2008, though Ubisoft did manage to release their first video game movie based on the franchise, starring Michael Fassbender in an original story.
Last month, Ubisoft officially confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be unveiled at E3 this summer. The studio hosts their pre-expo press briefing next Monday, where they will unveil their full lineup of new games, including the latest installments in the Far Cry and The Crew franchises – but much of the attention will be focused on the latest Assassin’s Creed game. However, it looks like details on the game has already been leaked (and, thus, confirmed) thanks to a pre-order card appearing online.

Rumors have suggested that the next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Origins and that it will take place thousands of years prior to the events of the first game. The aforementioned pre-order card (which appears to be an Assassin’s Creed PS4 card from Target) has confirmed the game’s title as well as its Ancient Egypt setting. The pre-order card coincides with the leaked image from last month that showcased the game’s hero – an unknown assassin – sailing a small boat in Egypt, conducting the mission, “Follow Shadya to Khenut’s Villa.”
The fact that the mission references Khenut – the Queen of Egypt during King Unas’ reign from 2375 – 2345 BC – further confirms the Egyptian setting as well as the game being a prequel to the original installments. Aside from that, the pre-order card indicates that people who pre-order the game (at least from Target) will receive the bonus mission “Secrets of the First Pyramids.” Furthermore, the card is specifically designed for pre-ordering the Gold Edition of the game, which is a steelbook that includes the game, the deluxe pack, and the season pass. What the season pass will entail is something we should find out more about at E3 next week.
