The CW has announced the 2019 season finale dates for its Arrowverse TV series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. In the years since Arrow launched on The CW in 2012, it’s given rise to a pair of spinoffs in the forms of The Flash solo series and the time-travel adventures of the Legends of Tomorrow. Meanwhile, Supergirl got its start on CBS, but crossed-over with The Flash during its first season and has aired on The CW since season 2.
All four shows have aired multiple seasons by now and have already been renewed for the 2019-2020 season on The CW. However, big changes are on the horizon, between this fall’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event and this week’s announcement that Arrow will end after season 8. As such, fans may want to keep a close eye on what goes down in this season’s Arrowverse finales.
The CW has announced that all four Arrowverse shows will conclude their current seasons this May. The Arrow season 7 finale will air first on Monday, May 13 at 9 pm, followed by The Flash season 5 finale on Tuesday, May 14 at 8pm. Supergirl season 4 will conclude five days after that on Sunday, May 19 at 8pm, followed by the Legends of Tomorrow season 4 finale on Monday, May 20.
As mentioned, it’s possible we’re about to enter Phase 2 of the Arrowverse, so to speak. Arrow is ending, but The CW already has a potential replacement lined-up in Batwoman. The latter show hasn’t been ordered to series just yet, but that’s expected to change in the near future. Ruby Rose made her debut as Kate Kane aka. Batwoman in last year’s Elseworlds crossover event and will star in the Batwoman series, assuming it gets picked up. Meanwhile, The Flash and Supergirl are expected to continue on for - at least - another season (or more) after 2019-2020. Legends of Tomorrow, however, has typically been lower in the ratings than those shows and may wrap its run after five seasons (though, to be clear, season 6 is still very much a real possibility).
Fans have already begun to speculate about what the next era of the Arrowverse will bring, once the 2019-2020 season is done. Some are calling for The CW to revive the Constantine TV series, following John Constantine’s role on Legends of Tomorrow season 4. Others, however, are trying to predict which superhero or heroes is/are going to die in Crisis on Infinite Earth (like the Arrowverse’s producers have teased), and how that will impact the status quo. Whichever way you cut it, there are some dramatic changes in store for The CW’s small screen superheroes.
