When Arrow lost Black Canary late in season 4, it seemed as though Team Arrow would have to do without a version of the character for a while, as likely successor Evelyn Sharp took up the mantle of Artemis before she took to being a dirty traitor working for Prometheus. Then, during the midseason finale, the answer appeared to present itself in the form of Laurel Lance, who had returned from the dead. As it turns out, things weren’t as cut-and-dried as that, leaving Oliver and his cohort once again in search of a new Black Canary.

Arrow is taking more license as they push forward into the last half of the season and have again introduced their own original character in former Central City police detective Tina Boland (Juliana Harkavy) to the mix. This interesting new character has a bigger purpose that is revealed briefly in a new teaser for next week’s episode!

The teaser for next week’s episode of Arrow, titled ‘Second Chances’, makes is pretty clear that the new woman seen screaming over in Hub City is going to be a rather dry-witted Tina Boland. The backstory of this character has yet to be fully revealed, but she is out for revenge and is about to use her advanced fighting skills and special power to seek blood. Boland has lost someone, just like Oliver (Stephen Amell).

In Arrow the first Black Canary was Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), the sister of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). When Oliver’s ship crashed and he disappeared for years on an island it was while he was off cheating on Laurel with Sara. A dangerous and deadly Sara Lance comes back to the series as Canary and is later reborn as White Canary, before moving over the the Legends of Tomorrow television series. Laurel then decides to honor her sister by training and becoming a part of Team Arrow as the new Black Canary, eventually meeting her own untimely demise…or did she?

Whatever the deal is with Laurel, it seems that it leaves Oliver still searching for a few new teammates. So far, Arrow hasn’t been shy about letting viewers in on its future plans, so this peek into next week serves as a nice primer that the Team Arrow bunker may be welcoming some new blood very soon.
