AT&T this morning posted their fiscal 2011 second quarter results (calendar 2011 June quarter). Consolidated revenues were up 2.2 percent to $31.5 billion. The carrier activated 3.6 million iPhones during the June quarter, representing more than half of the smartphones sold. More than one quarter of iPhone activations came from new users, the carrier said. The figure matches the 3.6 million iPhone activations from the March quarter, with 23 percent of them from new users....

Apple has been building Continuity features into its software that let you make phone calls and send messages from iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches through your iPhone for a while now, and today AT&T is announcing a new network-level advancement called NumberSync capable of doing that for all connected devices. With NumberSync, AT&T customers will soon be able to use what’s called mobile twinning to share a single phone number with multiple SIM cards in smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and other connected devices....

To me, the Asus Taichi (pictured above), seems the most interesting of the new products (the full press release can be read on the4cast, here). It’s a tablet/notebook hybrid, featuring two screens and a very interesting operating concept. It’s a laptop that has two displays (one on each side of the lid). The displays are either 13.3 or 11,6 inch and have an HD resolution. According to figures released by market research company BCN, Asus sold more tablets than Apple during the first half of 2014 in Japan. Asus’ market share rose 8 percent year-over-year during the first half of 2014, the report claims, giving it a 38.9 percent portion of the tablet market in Japan. Apple, on the other hand, holds a 36.4 percent share (via Nikkei). This is the first time Asus has ever held the top spot in Japan, according to the report....
